In Regards to the Recent Obsession With Change

With our mixing cultures, it is necessary to try to preserve the old traditions, but it is also important to keep moving forward. We must always be sure that we are not letting old cultural values hold us back from reaching the pinnacle of our capabilities. To be the most dominant culture that the world has ever seen, we must choose not to be ignorant
It is necessary to be cautious about the changes being made. There are many opportunities for failure. All people must aid in developing this brave new culture. It will take the hard work and dedication of the whole world to change. As a society, we must not sit idly by as those who are smarter than we are working for advancement. It is the responsibility of each person to do his part.
When one looks back at history, when people worked together for the benefit of all, we progressed as a country. A country founded on working for the benefit of all. The reason that the United States has always been the leader among other countries is because people were all willing to work for the country.
I am concerned when I see this great opportunity that is given to us. The reason for concern is that there is no person who is taking the next steps in the contribution. Our country no longer functions as a whole. Currently, a state of selfishness stands in the way of progress. Where is the generation of hard working, bold, and unselfish people? Have we reached the end of our dominance? As a member of the society of which these things are demanded, I am forced to be pensive about the possibilities that exist for us.
With all of this said, I think that the mixing of cultures is a good thing that will change our society for the better. There will be a lot of change that takes place with these cultural shifts. We have to find a good balance between skepticism and liberalism. If we have a true sense of leadership, we will be an unstoppable force capable of unimaginable things. We have an opportunity that we cannot afford to waste.

  1. Agreed... for the most part

While "asking not what your country can do for you", and "asking what you can do for your country" may have been more relavent some 40 years ago, doing something for your country also meant doing something for yourself.

I think the difference now is simply the absence of the first part of that equation.

  2. I like how you call for the preservation of old traditions. We should definitely take the best of all of the cultures in our societies to ensure diversity. Globalization is a great thing but it’s a strong force that must be dealt with carefully. The melting pot that is our American society is good in some ways but bad in others as the valuable traditions of the melting cultures seem to get lost in assimilation. The end product then seems not to have much of an identity at all. It’s hard to define American culture at times especially comparing it to some of the richer cultures around the world.

Choosing to not be ignorant is a great choice indeed, well put Van-tastic. I don’t find much bliss in ignorance and I’d very much rather be an unhappy and maybe slightly confused Socrates compared to a blind, blissful pig joyfully rolling around in its own shit.

I think we should definitely widen the scope though as I like to call for a collective advancement of the human race rather than just the cultures of certain countries. If we don’t completely screw up and waste the great gifts of nature and God then we will (relatively) soon be able explore the universe. We’ll need to be united together (through the universal love that francisw talks about) to have any advancements in this direction. We will need to get past our many vices to become a dominant race. The vast expanse that is our universe contains a myriad of unknowns but all we can do is our best. Most likely we won’t be the most dominant race in the universe but who said we can’t at least work towards it and be the best we can be. But I probably strayed a little too far from the subject and reality for the time being. We must first take care of what’s closest to home. Well actually we must take care of our home, with great respect. We must take up our individual parts to make sure our home, our Earth, does not ruin and rot away because of the gross evils we let into it.

  3. Definitely a complete and united cooperation will bring the greatest results. It’s starts on the individual level for sure. Each and every one of us has an important role to play in life. It may not seem like much when it’s singled out and separated from the big picture but each pixel of the big picture makes it what it is. Without every pixel there is no picture. So for this brave new global culture to succeed, we should have this new culture mixed to perfection with all the different spices and goods of all the many cultures on our earth (or in our milky way galaxy? Haha for a more universal level).

Smarter people almost need to be more responsible with their knowledge. They have more so they should give more. We all need to use our skills to work toward advancement. Whatever our talents are, we must use them as best we can. Efficiency is very important. Higher productivity in less time opens new opportunities.

We should work for advancement of our race brothers and sisters. Mother Earth provides us with everything we need so we should show her the respect she deserves.

Our over consumption and greed are huge impediments on our advancement. We waste the goods of life in a lazy, power-druken stupor. On perception of the implications of our actions are fogged up by our selfishness. We don’t see beyond the mirror we use in twisted self-adoration. That’s not to say it isn’t important to turn inward to find meaning or truth in our world, the act just turns perverted as the selfishness Van-tastic talks about increases.

Society on a global whole needs to be equalized. We need to share the goods that mother nature has given all of us on this earth. We need to spread the love and good across the whole globe. Once equalization has occurred (at least to a significant degree past its current state) then more of our race can specialize in more important areas (two minds are better than one) so that more humans can work together toward the advancement to better things.

Opportunities are being wasted in gross quantities. We must start change right now for our greatest potential to be reached. Time is precious!

  4. I agree with most of what you are saying; generally we need to take advantage of the opportunities that come about and we will become something great. There are just so many opportunities that we barley aknowledge because the world is just full of careless people who are too lazy to try as hard as they can.

People crave more. More money, more clothes, more attention; because they are never satisfied with what they have. Happiness is achieved when we are satisfied with what we have. The problem is that people are wanting more so they do what they can to satisfy their desires, instead of limiting them.

In (working title)'s response, he says "Smarter people almost need to be more responsible with their knowledge." I think that almost all people have the opportunity to be intelligent. Books and encyclopedias are avaible, we can research whatever we want online, and school practically throws information at us but some students are too lazy to absorb it and improve themselves. What makes a person smart is by being smart with the time they have, and by choosing to do as much good as they are capable of.

We wish too much. We wish that we could get an A in that one class, or we wish we could play the bass guitar, or we wish we could stay calm during stressful situations. Lately, I have noticed people telling me what they want in life. Not materialistic things, but wants that would make them a better person. Skills. Patience. What isn't realized is that nothing is stopping them from doing it. They are the only thing holding themselves back. I dont believe that talents come naturally. I don't believe in luck. I believe that events in your life happen because you make then happen. What seems like luck, is just what you profit from the choices of others. Luck is taking opportunities.

"If we did all the things we are capable of, we would astound ourselves."
    -Thomas Edison

  5. Well, Anonymous, I agree with you one hundred percent. People complain, but then remain complacent. Television shows these days show rich people complaining about stupid and non-relevent issues. My generation, 1988, seems to eat that kind of stuff up. Sometimes it seems like people actually enjoy having something to complain about. It seems like they need it. Also, people are too willing to hop on band wagons too easily. For instance, this sudden call for change with Obama seems to have taken over my college campass. I would ask people why Obama, or what do you like Obama. Most of the time people had no answer. They just kind of wanted to be like the people around them. Ron Paul would have given us even more change. I guess my point is, that you are correct. People are not taking advantage of the opportunities to obtain valid important information, but are instead content with just trying to fit in with a crowd. Maybe people need to start to think for themselves. Actually think. Actually challenge themselves. Thomas Edison was right, but I wish that more people would take the quote to heart.
